Location
Laguna Beach is a coastal resort community in South Orange County and borders Dana Point to the south, Newport Coast (a part of the city of Newport Beach) to the northwest, Aliso Viejo to the northeast and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest.
The community can be accessed via the 133 freeway / highway off interstate 5, the 405 freeway or the 73 Toll Road heading west or via Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1).
Overview
Laguna Beach is a community of approximately 23,000 residents known for its scenic beaches and coves, environmental protection, and artist community. The city remains relatively isolated and has its own unique feel given the limited access and rolling hillsides and protected lands (approximately 6 miles of state marine reserve and over 1 mile of conservation area). Tourism is the biggest industry driving nearly 6 million visitors a year with numerous hotels and resorts.
Neighborhoods
Laguna Beach offers a variety of real estate from small beach cottages, ocean front condos, duplexes, to luxurious custom ocean view estates high atop the hillsides or along the cliffsides just above the Pacific Ocean. There are also various properties nestled into Laguna Canyon. Many properties offer private entrances or are guard gated as part of a larger development.
Laguna Beach consists of 46 builder tracts spread across four different neighborhoods or areas. These areas include Laguna Canyon off the 133, Laguna Village surrounding downtown Laguna and Laguna Beach North and Laguna Beach South.
Amenities
Large annual events include the Pageant of the Masters, Festival of Arts, Sawdust Fetival, Bluewater Music Festival, and Art-A-Fair. The beaches, rocky cliffs and coves make city a very scenic place for artists, photographers and filmmakers.

Hiking and biking are popular throughout the community as the hillsides offer great views of the coast, especially at the popular spot at the highest point in the city, Top of the World. Laguna Coast Wilderness Park is a 7,000 acre areas in the hillsides of Laguna Beach and Crystal Cove State Park just borders the community to the north in Newport Beach. Laguna Beach also backs into Aliso and Wood Canyons Regional Park, leaving plenty of beautiful open space to explore and keeping the quaint secluded feel of the community.
Other outdoor activities include Ben Brown’s Golf Course, beach volleyball and basketball in downtown Laguna and tennis venues in various locations.
Retail and dining options throughout the city are popular places with many well-known restaurants, shops, and art galleries. Whether you’re looking for fine dining ocean front, a rooftop bar for a drink, or a quick bite to eat, there are restaurants to meet your needs.
The resorts from the old Laguna Beach Inn to the Montage, are popular destinations for tourists in addition to the abundance of other boutique hotels and resorts to stay at in the community.
Public education is overseen by Laguna Beach Unified School District. It oversees Laguna Beach High School, Thurston Middle School, and two elementary schools – Top of the World Elementary School and El Morro Elementary School. There is a private school and also a small college, Laguna College of the Arts and Design.
