Location
Coto De Caza is nestled in the foothills of south eastern Orange County and is bordered by Rancho Santa Margarita to the west and the Thomas R. Riley Wilderness Park to the east, north, and south.
The community is most easily accessible via the 241 Toll Road exiting at Rancho Santa Margarita Parkway or heading east on Oso Parkway off of Interstate 5 until it dead-ends into the community.
Overview
Coto De Caza meaning hunting preserve in Spanish is a guard-gated community of approximately 15,000 people and 4,000 homes. The community is the oldest and most expensive master-planned community in Orange County which began in 1968 and was completed in the early 2000s and is surrounded by open space with horse trails and a 36-hole golf course within the community.
Neighborhoods
Coto De Caza is a community of predominately luxury homes priced well over $1 million. Primarily built out during the late 1980s through early 2000s, the homes range from mid-size to large luxurious tract and custom homes. Many homes offer large lots, pools, and some are zoned for equestrian. The custom enclave of homes offer acres of land and homes with 10,000 or more square feet.
Coto De Caza is split into North and South based on the two different entrances into the community, one off Rancho Santa Margarita Parkway to the north and Oso Parkway to the South. There are approximately 60 sub-divisions within the community. One of the most exclusive neighborhoods within Coto De Caza is the Los Ranchos Estates, which encompasses 75 homes on 355 rural acres and stands as its own private community with HOA within Coto De Caza.
Amenities
With the community surrounded by Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park, which is open to the general public, the outdoor enthusiast will love this escape from the busy suburbs. This park has educational center and functions as an ecological preserve maintained by the Orange County Parks.
Residents shop mainly in the adjacent communities of Rancho Santa Margarita (including Las Flores), Mission Viejo, and Ladera Ranch. There is also a small little market within the community as well.
Within the community, there is the Coto De Caza Golf and Racquet Club which features tennis courts, 36 holes of golf, dining and entertainment.
